Bill Analysis

HB 1080 amends code to add a civil judge to the list of judges who can use the courthouse address on their driver's license application and keep their personal mailing address private.

Vote Recommendation Notes

It is important in a free and civil society to have transparency in government; including transparency about out government officials. Because of the nature of their work, judges may be victims of violence or threats of violence at a higher rate than most people. It makes sense to allow them to keep their personal address private in order to prevent them or their families from being harassed at home. It is our view that this bill would protect the individual liberty of civil judges without impinging on transparency. For this reason we support HB 1010.
