Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 72 would increase the penalty from third degree felony to second degree felony for fleeing the scene of an accident that results in serious bodily injury or death.

Analysis: Fleeing the scene of an accident, particularly one involving serious bodily injury or death, is an egregious offense. Enhancing the penalty from third to second degree felony may incentivize people to stop and render aid rather than flee the scene. We support HB 72.
