Bill Caption

Relating to a limited waiver of sovereign immunity for state and local governmental entities in certain employment lawsuits filed by nurses.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication is anticipated on the State. The cost to local governments would vary.

Bill Analysis

Summary: HB 581 would allow a government employed nurse to sue a state or local government operated hospital based on retaliatory actions for whistleblowing by waving sovereign immunity.

Analysis: HB 581 would enhance the individual liberty of the nurse by giving an avenue for recourse if the nurse is terminated for whistleblowing. We recommend voting YES on HB 581.
