Summary: HB 1809 would allow cultural education facilities finance corporations to acquire and improve real property, including buildings, or personal property, including equipment, for the use of Texas, or one of Texas’ counties, cities, or other governmental entities for authorized needs and purposes. These corporations may issue bonds to finance the acquisition, construction, or renovation of cultural facilities, health facilities, and educational facilities.
Analysis: Cultural education facilities finance corporations put taxpayers use taxpayer dollars for purposes that are better funded through private means. Private entities can promote and preserve culture in Texas without taxpayer support. Allowing these corporations to put taxpayer resources behind leasing or purchasing lands or buildings to promote the goals of these corporations is an unnecessary expansion of government that will burden Texas taxpayers. Vote "no," on HB 1809.
