Bill Analysis

Summary: Under current law, the commissioners court of each county is required to create a justice court technology fund. HB 1448 allows this fund to be used for technological expansion by the constable's office or other county department upon approval by the county commissioners court. This legislation is bracketed for Guadalupe County.

Analysis: Allowing the commissioners court to designate money from the county technology fund to be used by the constable's office creates more county control of county resources. While this legislation is bracketed for a specific county, the Legislature should consider making this applicable to counties statewide.  We recommend voting in favor of HB 1448.
