Bill Caption

Relating to annually adjusting for inflation the maximum amount of a motor vehicle excluded in determining eligibility for the supplemental nutrition assistance program.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1914 would require the Executive Commissioner of the Health and Human Services Commission to by rule adjust for inflation the maximum amount of the fair market value of the highest valued motor vehicle that would be excluded from the resources of an applicant's household for the purposes of determining eligibility for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes SB 1914 which is inconsistent with the principle of limited government because the bill delegates a legislative function to an executive branch agency. Rather than having this eligibility factor automatically adjust based on various indexes, the legislature should set the amount by statute.
