Bill Caption

Relating to procedures for early voting by mail.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 1675 would prohibit any official or political subdivision from amending or suspending early voting by mail procedures unless specifically allowed to do so by statute. A narrow exception would be created in the case of a declared disaster.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports SB 1675 because it espouses the limited government and individual liberty principles by protecting Texas elections. This bill would enact additional security in Texas' elections by preventing government officials or political subdivisions from changing absentee voting rules on a whim. This will make elections more secure, reduce chaos, and help instill the electorate with confidence of electoral outcomes.
