Bill Analysis

HB 80 would prohibit a judge from requiring a criminal defendant who is under the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services or in extended foster care to pay any amount of the fines and costs of their conviction. Instead of imposing fines and costs, the judge would be able to require the defendant to perform community service.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 80 as it does not touch directly on any of our Liberty Principles.
