Relating to a study by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement on
mental health services provided to peace officers in this state.
Estimated Two-year Net Impact to General Revenue Related
Funds for HB4299, As Introduced: a negative impact of ($121,008) through the
biennium ending August 31, 2023. The
bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation
of funds to implement the provisions of the bill.
HB 4299 would require the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement to study the provision, availability, and accessibility of mental health services for peace officers.
Texas Action is opposed to HB 4299 on the principle of limited government. If such a study is necessary it should be conducted using existing resources rather than expanding government at taxpayer expense.
