Bill Caption

Relating to the collection of certain judgments.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 2918 would entitle a person to a hearing for court assistance if they were awarded a judgment against another person in a civil suit and despite their efforts have not been able to recover the total money judgment they were awarded. If notice of the hearing is given to the debtor, the court would be required to appoint a receiver to recover the total judgment, unless the debtor appears and asserts an applicable exemption.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral on HB 2918 as it does not significantly affect any of our Liberty Principles.
