Bill Caption

Relating to the establishment of a grant program for promoting computer science certification and professional development in coding, technology applications, cybersecurity, and computer science for public school teachers.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated. It is assumed that the costs associated with the bill's provisions relating to the establishment of a grant program for promoting computer science certification and professional development in coding, technology applications, cybersecurity, and computer science for public school teachers could be absorbed using existing resources.

Bill Analysis

HB 244 would allow the establishment of a competitive professional development grant program to encourage teachers to obtain computer science certification and continue professional development in coding, computational thinking, cybersecurity, and computer science education. The bill stipulates qualification requirements to participate in such a program if one is established. Grants may be made from any federal funds available for this purpose.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action is neutral toward HB 244.
