Bill Caption

Relating to the methods by which students may be admitted to public schools and the disclosure of information regarding public school admission methods.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 2391 would authorize charter schools to use a weighted lottery that assigns weights to applicants so that an applicant's probability of admission increases if the applicant is eligible to participate in the school's special education program, a student of limited English proficiency, a student at risk of dropping out of school, or educationally disadvantaged.

Vote Recommendation Notes

HB 2391 is permissive rather than mandatory, therefore Texas Action is neutral toward HB 2391.
