HB 2039 would add Muslim imams to the list of religious officials in the code permitted to authorize a marriage ceremony.
Texas Action is neutral on HB 2039 as it would not affect the liberty of religious officials to conduct wedding ceremonies. As the code already authorizes officers of any religious organization to conduct such ceremonies, HB 2039 would only add Muslim imams in name specifically.
