Relating to the reinstatement of eligibility for medical assistance of certain children placed in juvenile facilities.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1664 would require the health and human services commission to reinstate the eligibility for medical assistance for a child who is in a juvenile facility and is hospitalized or becomes an inpatient at another facility for the duration of that stay. The implementation of this legislation may be delayed if it is determined that a memorandum of understanding between the commission and the Texas Juvenile Justice Department or a waiver or authorization from a federal agency is needed.
HB 1664 serves to protect children who are injured or committed while in the custody of the state. Texas Action is neutral on HB 1664.
