Relating to the Brazos River Authority, following recommendations of the Sunset Advisory Commission; specifying grounds for the removal of a member of the board of directors.
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1570 would clarify grounds for the removal of a member of the board of directors of the Brazos River Authority such as inadequate qualifications, inability to discharge duties, or being absent from more than half of the meetings. Potential members of the board would be required to take a training course before they assume their duties.
The Brazos River Authority would also have to maintain a system to promptly and efficiently act on complaints. The board would be required to develop and implement policies that provide the public with a reasonable opportunity to provide public testimony in a hearing.
HB 1570 would require the next sunset review of the Brazos River Authority during the 2032-2033 sunset review cycle, and every 12th year thereafter.
Texas Action supports HB 1570 as this bill makes government more transparent and accountable.
