Relating to liability of volunteer health care providers and health care institutions for care, assistance, or advice provided in relation to a disaster.
According to the Legislative Budget Board, no significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 752 would extend civil liability protection for volunteer health care professionals (except in cases of reckless conduct or intentional, willful, or wanton misconduct) and the facilities that sponsor the care of assistance during or in the wake of a man-made or natural disaster.
Texas Action supports SB 752 because it promotes individual liberty. Volunteer health care professionals should be enabled, and even encouraged, to use their skills and knowledge to assist in the event of a disaster without fear of lawsuits.
