Relating to personal financial literacy courses for high school students in public schools.
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 686 would change the foundation high school program curriculum requirements to add personal financial literacy courses, requiring that at least one-half credit be completed in either economics or personal financial literacy and economics.
Texas Action recommends supporting SB 686 because it promotes our principles of personal responsibility. Teaching high school students financial literacy could impact their future financial decisions and help them make more educated decisions with their money.
