Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

SB 629 would require certain school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to post to their websites an electronic database of their finances. The bill prescribes the specific financial information which must be disclosed in the database. This would apply only to the top 50 school districts by enrollment and the top 10 open-enrollment charter schools by enrollment.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends supporting SB 629 because it promotes our principle of limited government. By requiring major school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to disclose their finances in a way that is easily available to the public, taxpayers will be able to keep school boards and school administrators accountable. Greater transparency promotes limited government.
