Relating to the authority of a political subdivision to adopt or enforce certain regulations regarding whether a private employer may obtain or consider an employment applicants' or employees' criminal history record information.

Bill Analysis

SB 2488 would prohibit a political subdivision from adopting or enforcing any ordinance, order, rule, regulation, or policy that prohibits, limits, or otherwise regulates a private employer's ability to request, consider, or take employment action on the criminal history record information of an applicant or employee.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports SB 2488 because it promotes limited government, free markets, and individual liberty. This bill would prevent burdensome, unnecessary regulations on private businesses by political subdivisions, and ensure that Texas businesses remain competitive with other states.
