Relating to information a law enforcement agency is required to share with a school district about a person who may be a student.
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
SB 2135 would require a peace officer or police department, when making an arrest of a student or referring a student to the juvenile board, to provide information of the student to the superintendent of the school where the student is enrolled in so that the superintendent can create a threat assessment or a school safety plan relating to that student.
Texas Action remains neutral on SB 2135 because it does not promote or violate any of our principles. This information sharing for the purposes of threat assessment or preparing a safety plan does appear to be good policy to help keep schools safe.
