Report 1st House, Substituted: a negative impact of ($289,589) through the biennium ending
August 31, 2021.
The bill would make no appropriation but could provide the legal basis for an appropriation of
funds to implement the provisions of the bill.
SB 1728 would establish a joint interim committee, the Texas Commission on Judicial Selection, to study and review the methods by which statutory county court judges, district judges, and appellate justices and judges are selected for office. The Commission would provide a report and recommendation to the lieutenant governor, speaker, and governor no later than December 31, 2020.
