No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated

Bill Analysis

SB 1577 would prohibit the legislature from appropriating money, and prohibit a state agency from using appropriated money, to settle or otherwise pay a sexual harassment claim made against an elected member of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of state government, or a person serving as a member of a department, commission, board, or other public office within those branches of government.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports SB 1577 because it promotes limited government and personal responsibility. Using taxpayer funds for this purpose would be improper, and it should be the responsibility of the public official to settle those legal matters outside of using taxpayer funds.
