Bill Caption

Relating to exemptions for disabled peace officers and fire fighters from payment of tuition and fees at public institutions of higher education.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 766 would exempt firefighters from paying tuition and fees at public institutions of higher education if they were permanently disabled while performing duties of a firefighters. This exemption currently exists for peace officers.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends opposing HB 766 because it violates our principle of limited government. Exempting a specific group from paying tuition at a public university or college would shift the burden to others.
