Bill Analysis

HB 529 would allow county voter registrars to notify volunteer deputy registrars of the upcoming expiration of their term of appointment by mail or e-mail. Notices would be required to include a renewal application and information about any relevant changes in election law.

Under the provisions of this bill a registrar must immediately appoint a volunteer deputy registrar to a new term beginning the next January 1, provided that the volunteer deputy registrar 1) signs the renewal application and returns it before the expiration of the current term, 2) signs an affidavit attesting to have read and understood information regarding changes to election law, and 3) remains eligible for the position.
