Bill Analysis

HB 4683 would create the Hunter Ranch Improvement District No. 1 of Denton County to promote, develop, encourage, and maintain employment, commerce, transportation, housing, tourism, recreation, the arts, entertainment, economic development, safety, and the public welfare in the district via projects and improvements, including economic development programs. The bill sets out the composition of the district's board of directors and authorizes the district to collect assessments. The district would not be authorized to impose most taxes unless approved by voters in an election. The district would not be granted any eminent domain power.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action opposes HB 4683 for violating the principles of limited government and free markets. It is not the proper role of government to use public funds for promoting recreation, the arts, tourism, etc.
