Bill Analysis

HB 3172 would prohibit any governmental entity in this state from taking any adverse action against any person based wholly or partly on the person's membership in, affiliation with, or contribution, donation, or other support provided to a religious organization. Furthermore, HB 3172 would provide for the possibility of injunctive relief, declaratory relief, and court costs and reasonable attorney's fees for a person asserting a claim of actual or threatened violation of the religious discrimination prohibition established by this bill.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill supports freedom of religion and freedom of association which are core constitutionally protected rights. This is in alignment with the principles of limited government and individual liberty. For these reasons we support HB 3172.
