Bill Caption

Relating to use of compensatory education allotment funding to provide assistance to students at risk of dropping out of school who are pregnant or who are parents and to reporting through the Public Education Information Management System.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 314 would allow funds appropriated to help students from dropping out of public schools to be used for child care for pregnant students and their children. School districts could also use the funds to pay the costs for services provided through a life skills program.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action recommends opposing HB 314 because it violates our principle of Limited Government. Providing this service is not the proper role of the state. There are many resources available through charitable organizations to address issues that pregnant teens or students who are parents may have.
