Bill Caption

Relating to the correction of an ad valorem tax appraisal roll.

Fiscal Notes

Passage of the bill would expand the grounds permitted in an error correction motion to include unequal appraisal. As a result, taxable property values could be reduced and the related costs to the Foundation School Fund could be increased through the operation of the school finance formulas.

Bill Analysis

HB 2159 would allow property owners or chief appraisers to file motions with the appraisal review board to correct an error regarding the unequal appraisal or excessive market value of a property which resulted in an incorrect appraisal value for the property.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 2159 for promoting the principles of limited government and property rights.  This bill would help to allow property owners an additional recourse to correct errors that unfairly punish them with higher than necessary property taxes.
