Bill Caption

Relating to prohibiting telemarketers from transmitting misleading caller identification information or otherwise misrepresenting the origin of a telemarketing call.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1992 would prohibit a telemarketer from transmitting misleading information to a recipient’s caller identification service or device.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Current law regulates the telemarketers to prevent them from circumventing or interfering with caller identification. The addition to those regulations proposed by this bill does not appear to be onerous or unreasonable for the telemarketing industry to comply with. For these reasons we remain neutral on HB 1992.
