Relating to the imposition of an administrative penalty and the
repeal of the criminal penalty for a violation of the interior
designers licensing law.
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
HB 1894 would prohibit the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners from imposing an administrative penalty on a person for conduct related to the practice of interior design unless the person holds a certificate of registration as an interior designer.
The certificate of registration as an interior designer is a voluntary certification. People who work as interior designers but choose not to be certified should not be subject to administrative penalties that are related to certified and registered interior designers. The entire point of not becoming certified is to avoid entanglement with bureaucratic certification and licensing boards.
We support HB 1894 which uplifts our principles of limited government, individual liberty, and free markets.
