Bill Caption

Relating to the regulation of salvage vehicle dealers.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1667 would allow holders of an independent motor vehicle dealer’s general distinguishing number to act as a salvage dealer or rebuilder and display a motor vehicle as an agent or escrow agent of an insurance company.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Texas Action supports HB 1667 for promoting the principles of individual liberty and free markets.  This bill would simply allow an additional avenue for Texans to become salvage dealers in a way that is divorced from one existing license.  Texas should pursue permanent occupational licensing deregulation in order to remove barriers to work for various occupations in the state.
