Bill Caption

Relating to electronic toll collection customer account information.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

Under current law, customer electronic toll collection information is confidential and is not subject to disclosure. Senate Bill 1643 would add a subchapter to the TransportationCode that would authorize that a local toll project entity may provide electronic toll collection customer account information to another toll project entity, as long as both entities are under contract. The shared information may not include customer financial information and may not be used for commercial purposes.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill would not affect the privacy of individuals but rather allow information relating to toll billing to be shared with those other entities which operate toll roads in Texas. This would likely lead to fewer billing confusions for users. Because this is a largely procedural change and would only be shared amongst governmental entities, we remain neutral on SB 1643.
