Bill Analysis

HB 3727 would amend the Local Government Code to add that if a member of the governing body of a Type A General Law Municipality changes the member’s place of residence to a location outside the corporate boundaries of the municipality, the member is disqualified from holding office and the office is considered vacant. Also, a member of the governing body would be ineligible to vote to fill a vacancy on the governing body by special election after resigning from the governing body.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill enhances our limited government principle by taking a measure to ensure members of the governing body of a municipality have their constituents best interests in mind by requiring them to live within the boundaries of the municipality during their term.
