Bill Caption
Relating to the prohibition of local motor fuel taxes on compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas.
Fiscal Notes
No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
Bill Analysis
Under current law, state taxes on gasoline, diesel fuel, and liquefied gas stand in the place of any excise or occupational taxes imposed by political subdivisions. HB 1351 would also apply this provision to compressed natural gas and liquefied natural gas.
Vote Recommendation Notes
This bill supports the principles of limited government and the free market because protecting forms of natural gas from local taxation alongside other fuels brings greater clarity to the tax code and allows operators in the market to operate more freely. For this reason, we support HB 1351.
