Bill Analysis

SB 378 would add a licensed social worker and retired social worker to the definition of "volunteer health provider" under the Texas Charitable Immunity and Liability Act of 1987, which protects volunteers from civil liability for any act or omission resulting in injury to a patient under certain circumstances.

Vote Recommendation Notes

The addition of licensed social workers to law that protects volunteers from liability would help encourage more volunteers to help out in a time of need. By limiting liability, this bill supports taking personal responsibility for one's choice to be aided by a volunteer health worker, therefore we support this legislation.
