Bill Analysis

SB 27 would amend code regarding open meetings act for institutions of higher education to include that the meeting must be broadcast over the internet and there must be an online archive located on the Internet Website of the entity holding the meeting. The law only applies to meetings for which notice is posted under section 551.043 of the Texas Government Code.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Eliminating regulatory barriers and promoting methods that help monitor government actions will result in a more honest, open government.  SB 27 would increase transparency and would help reduce the workload for responding to open records requests.  This bill affirms the principle of limited government, therefore we support this legislation.
