Bill Analysis

Current law requires physicians to conduct a test for syphilis at the time of a woman's delivery.

The legislation would shift the required syphilis testing to be performed during a woman's third trimester of pregnancy. The bill would also remove the requirement for the test at the time of labor and delivery if records indicate that the test was performed during the third trimester.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Changing the timeline of conducting a required syphilis test neither abridges nor advances our liberty principles. We remain neutral on SB 1128.
