Bill Caption

Relating to the collection of information regarding the number of alternatively fueled vehicles registered in this state.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend the Transportation Code to require the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) by rule to establish a program to collect information about the number of alternatively fueled vehicles registered in the state.

Vote Recommendation Notes

With the rise of alternative fuels and engines that are more fuel efficient, there is some concern that the amount of fuel tax collected to pay for transportation infrastructure may diminish over time. The information collected under the provisions of this bill may help to better estimate future motor vehicle fuels tax revenue.

HB 735 does not affect our liberty principles, therefore we are neutral.
