Bill Analysis
This legislation would amend the Election Code to allow for the use of certain devices while occupying a
voting station.
Vote Recommendation Notes
We support this legislation for it's intent to promote personal responsibility. Currently, the use of mobile devices is prohibited for any reason within a polling location. This legislation would allow for the use of a mobile device for the purpose of accessing information created prior to entering a polling location; such as a list of candidates or a slate card sent electronically. This is beneficial, due to some municipalities having a significant number of candidates on the ballot which sometimes causes confusion for voters. How an election judge or election administrator would verify that a voter is not using his or her mobile device for unapproved purposes while voting remains a question; but that is not enough reason for us to oppose an otherwise helpful bill.
