Bill Analysis

This legislation amends section 455.004 of the Transportation Code, which implements 6 year terms for members of the transportation advisory committee, three of the seats are to be staggered by odd-number years for reappointment.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill puts in place term lengths for a members of the transportation advisory board. Currently those advisory board members serve at the pleasure of the officer who appointed them. This is a board created by the legislature made up of members appointed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Speaker of the House. While the status quo may be preferable in order to allow more flexibility for incoming elected officials with appointment authority, this bill represents an administrative decision for the legislature with no discernible connection to our liberty principles. Therefore we remain neutral on HB 499.
