Bill Analysis

This legislation would require the TxDMV  to authorize an annual permit for a vehicle with a maximum gross weight of more than 80,000 pounds for certain oil well servicing and drilling machinery, and caps the gross weight for the vehicle at 135,000 pounds. The fee for the annual permit may not exceed $2,000.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support this legislation under the limited government principle. This legislation would allow TxDMV to institute an annual license not to exceed $2,000 for certain oil well servicing and drilling machinery.  We support this legislation for decreasing regulation of the licensing of these vehicles to every year, and would welcome an amendment to include additional types of vehicles to be subject to the same deregulation.
