Bill Caption

Relating to creating the offense of voyeurism; providing a penalty.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 207 would amend the chapter entitled “Sexual Offenses” within the Penal Code to reflect a new offense called voyeurism. This offense starts at a Class C misdemeanor but can go up to a state jail felony under certain circumstances. A state jail felony carries up to two years in jail and/or a fine up to $10,000.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We support the general aims of this legislation and approve of the mens rea protections. However, it is our view that a state jail felony is a disproportionately high sentence. For this reason we are neutral.
