Bill Caption

Relating to establishing precincts for elections held on a uniform election date by certain political subdivisions.

Fiscal Notes

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

The bill would amend the Election Code to specify the county election precincts are the election precincts for an election held by a local political subdivision. Currently, many Texans qualify as voters in more than one political subdivision or district. This potentially requires voters to go to multiple locations to cast ballots, and creates confusion, as well as increases the likelihood of unintentional voter fraud.

Vote Recommendation Notes

Open and accessible elections are the bedrock of Individual Liberty. We support this legislation because it attempts to make it easier for registered voters to vote for the multiple issues appearing on local ballots. HB 2027 would make election dates more uniform and would streamline the voting process for those living in numerous (and often overlapping) political subdivisions.
