Bill Analysis

HB 1914 allows the Board of Pardons and Paroles five additional years to reconsider parole of an inmate serving a life sentence or for an offense of aggravated sexual assault.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This legislation applies to people sentenced to a life term in prison for heinous crimes. While it may be beneficial to give discretion to the Board of Pardons and Paroles to lengthen the interval between parole hearings, this is an administrative matter that is not connected to our liberty principles. We are neutral on HB 1914.
