No changes have been made to this bill in House committee.
Senate sponsor of this bill is Sen. Eltife.
First chamber analysis is below:
HB 1830 seeks to remove the brackets on 8-liner video machine regulation and so that the provisions under Chapter 234, Local Government Code apply to the entire state of Texas. This is accomplished by repealing one of the duplicate Chapter 234's and repealing the applicability section of the other.
HB 1830 repeals Subchapter E, Chapter 234, Local Government Code, as added by Chapter 1284 (HB 2123), Acts of the 83rd Legislature, Regular Session, 2013, relating to the regulation of game rooms by a county with a population of less than 25,000 that is adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico and is within 50 miles of an international border (Harris County) and also repeals Section 234.132, Local Government Code, as added by Chapter 1377 (HB 1127), Acts of the 83rd Legislature, Regular Session, 2013, which limits the applicability of statutory provisions relating to the regulation of game rooms to a county with a population of four million or more.
This bill seeks to expand a law which restricts "8-liner" gaming machines in Harris County to all of Texas. We are neutral on this legislation as we did with similar bills in the Senate earlier this session..
