Bill Caption

Relating to the online renewal of driver's licenses of certain active duty military personnel and relatives.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

Bill Analysis

This legislation would amend the Transportation Code to provide active duty military personnel stationed abroad, their spouses, and dependent children with the option to renew their driver's licenses online.

While current law does allow for online drivers license renewal, there is concern that in certain circumstances military personnel and their families stationed abroad may not be able to do so.

Vote Recommendation Notes

For removing a bureaucratic barrier to online drivers license renewal for active duty military service members and their families stationed overseas, we support this legislation under the limited government principle.

The second chamber sponsor is Senator Van Taylor.
