Bill Analysis

HB 1630 would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code to prohibit a state or local governmental unit from entering into a settlement of a claim or action against the governmental unit for an amount of $30,000 or more and agreeing to a condition of the settlement that requires a party seeking affirmative relief against the governmental unit to agree not to disclose any fact, allegation, evidence, or other matter to any other person.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill affirms the principle of limited government. An important aspect of a limited government is government transparency. This would promote more government transparency on matters that affect taxpayers. For this reason, we support HB 1630.
