Bill Analysis
According to the bill author's statement of intent "Individuals who volunteer for the Texas military forces
currently are not required to subscribe to an oath of allegiance to the State of Texas and to the
United States of America. These parties note the importance of the oath of affirmation to the
Texas military forces. H.B. 1598 ensures that these volunteers are required to subscribe to such
an oath."
Vote Recommendation Notes
Requiring those who serve in the Texas Military Forces to take an oath to defend and protect the state of Texas would add clarity to the purpose for which the Texas Military Forces exist and to the responsibility of service members to the citizens of Texas. As a result we support HB 1598 under our personal responsibility principle.
