Bill Caption

Relating to requirements for annexation of certain commercial or industrial areas by a general-law municipality.

Fiscal Notes

No significant fiscal implication anticipated.

Bill Analysis

HB 1277 would provide that, in cases of general-law municipality annexation, 50% or more of the property to be annexed must be used for commercial and industrial purposes. The municipality must obtain the written permission of a majority of the owners of the property to be annexed.

Vote Recommendation Notes

This bill affirms the principle of property rights. HB 1277 would protect property owners from annexation of their land without their consent, therefore we support this legislation.
