Bill Analysis

HB 1273 would amend the Transportation Code to add new eligibility requirements and specialty license plates to be issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles for Korean War Veterans, Vietnam Veterans, Desert Shield/Storm/Provide Comfort Veterans, and Prisoners of War.

Vote Recommendation Notes

We normally remain neutral on all legislation relating to honorariums, memorials, specialty license plates, and road or bridge naming. However, because this legislation clears up past confusion relating to eligibility for some of our veterans to get specialty license places honoring their service we support HB 1273 under our limited government principle. Our laws should be clearly defined and not create undue confusion. To the extent that this law achieves that goal with respect to specialty license plate eligibility we are supportive.

The second chamber sponsor is Senator Uresti.
